How to Make Beats Part 1

The initial stages of beat making can be a tedious process. It can be both frustrating and fun and believe you me I have been there. The thought may be that it is too difficult to make beats but in general beat making has now been made much easier through the introduction of easier music making software. In this article I will give you tips on how to get started and make the best beats.

Choose a Style

You should know and be aware of the music style you want to use for your beats. Choose on whether your style will be rock, rap, soul, RnB and or pop or just many other types. Know what style you want else you may not know what you produced.

Choose an artist

The next tip is to choose an artist for your beat. If you are making rap beats then choose the rap artist you are making that beat for. You do not necessarily have o have that particular artist on board, but even imagining them singing will work. Imagine them and make a beat using that imagination, it will make it a lot easier when producing.

Listen to the song

Listen to the rap artist you are making beats for and feel the kind of beats that the rapper raps over and with.

Format the song

You should then format the song. This is very important and the formatting can be the song’s verse, verse bridge, chorus and more. You simply change the order in which the song was put in and arrange it in such a way to suit you. Start with say 2 or 4 bar intro, 16 bar verse, 8 bar chorus, 16 bar verse, 8 bar chorus. This is a basic beatmaking format. This is quite common in rap.
